“We are all just walking each other home.” ~ Ram Dass
As we all know and experience, the process of psychotherapy is healing and powerful. To guide our clients on the transformative journey inward is a tremendous honor. At times, however, we likely feel the limitations of talk as the primary modality for working with clients toward healing. With recent advances in neuroscience supporting the use of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness in the clinical setting, it is the perfect time and opportunity to learn more about how these modalities can be helpful.
This intensive workshop will outline recent findings in neuroscience and tie them to attachment and interpersonal theories, supporting the use of transformative mind / body / spirit approaches to therapy. The workshop will be an integration of lecture and experiential exercises, utilizing the wisdom traditions of Buddhist psychology and yogic philosophy, integrated with western neuroscience to ground the practices.
You'll walk away knowing how, when, and why to use these approaches in clinical settings.
THE DAY WILL INCLUDE:
- Teachings on neuroscience, attachment theories, interpersonal psychology, and Buddhist psychology to ground the practices
- How to set an ethical and safe container in the clinical setting to use these modalities
- Poses, breath work, sound, and mudras to use for depressive (tamasic) and anxiety (rajas) presentations
- Applications and resources for addiction, trauma, and couples
- Experiential, paired practicing, journaling, lecture, and other teaching modalities will be utilized
- Other forms of mindfulness, meditation, and yoga
- Resources for further training and certification in this work
PLEASE NOTE: No yoga or meditation experience is required, and adaptations can be made with every activity. Everything can be done on the cushion, mat, or in a chair.
We each believe strongly in healing using an integration of modalities, all research and evidence based. Through these, we can teach clients to tap into their own natural sources of health and healing from within. Our focus will be on helping clients learn to use their connections to their central nervous system to assess, diagnose, and treat dysregulation through body-based somatic modalities outlined above. It is also a portal for us to do our own work, creating deeper presence with ourselves and allowing a deeper presence as therapists. When we embark on these practices, we have an enhanced life because we begin to possess a different nervous system. This is fertile ground for sharing profound healing with those clients we serve.
We are both trained in LifeForce Yoga Level 2 with a specialization in Trauma and Mindfully Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). And, as we have specialized training in addiction/recovery, trauma treatment, couples therapy, and yoga nidra, there will be a focus on these presentations. Research and teaching will also be drawn from the current works of Dan Siegel, Bessel Van Der Kolk, Tara Brach, Jon Kabat-Zinn (Founder of MBSR), and Amy Weintraub (Founder of LifeForce Yoga).
